My Second Trimester Style Round-up

Lisa Comfort -second trimester style

Being pregnant has been a great new challenge for me in terms of making a handmade wardrobe. I love making clothes for me that are individual, in a style I like, so I wanted to be able to continue that throughout my pregnancy.

One of the first things I did when I found out I was pregnant was create a Pinterest board on maternity style. Priorities! I wanted to plan what I would be able to wear so I could think bout patterns and hacks for my handmade wardrobe.

It turns out it has been easier than I thought and I have loved changing up my existing patterns to fit me and I have still been able to wear some of my favourite ‘pre-pregnancy clothes’.

Here are 9 outfits I have loved wearing through the second trimester.

My Alex Shirt dress – this is from my book My Capsule Wardrobe: City Break. This dress I made for the shoot in the book and it still fits me – just! All I do is tie the belt higher under my bust and above the bump.

This is a pattern hack of the Tilly & the Buttons Agnes top. I did a tutorial on a similar hack over on our Sew Over It channel. I am wearing it with my handmade necklace which I did a tutorial for here.

This is our Pussy Bow blouse pattern. No alterations needed!

The Molly Dress – this is from my book My Capsule Wardrobe: City Break. I just made a size bigger – as it is jersey there was room for me to grow!

This is our Ultimate Wrap dress which I did a maternity hack. I changed quite a bit but it was worth it as she is so comfy! I moved the waist seam so it sits underneath the bust and made the dress a fixed hack and got rid of the ties. The front pieces are bigger and the hem has been dropped to accommodate the bump.

This is our Pussy Bow Blouse. I lengthened it into a dress and added some more room to the front side seams. It’s nice to wear something that isn’t jersey but is still flattering.

The Ultimate Shift Dress – this is my favourite hack I have done yet. It involved adding an extra seam under the bust and then adding an inverted box pleat in the bottom half of the dress. I then added a tie belt so I could cinch it in under my bust. I also added length to the front hem to allow for a growing tummy!

Another Agnes top hack (as above). This was the dress I made to announce on the Sew Over It channel about my pregnancy. It will always be a special dress – and a comfy one!

Ultimate Shift dress hack as above only this time as top. I love this fabric – it is a really pretty embroidery cut-out.

I will be doing the same with my third trimester hacks so check back in a few months for that!

  1. All your outfits are so cute! I hope that if I ever have the privilege of being pregnant I can look as adorable as you. Congratulations on your new site! It is quite lovely and definitely a job well done.

  2. Wow. Where were you 25 years ago when my choices were my husband’s shirts or really cutesy and expensive maternity wear? You look great and the clothes are gorgeous!

(That’s a rhetorical question, of course!)
